Black Hills Super 6

Spearfish, SD

The 6th Annual Black Hills Super 6 Mountain Bike Race was a huge success, with 131 participants from 6 states.

Save the date for August 16, 2025. Registration will open in the Spring.

Enjoy the Black Hills National Forest and help raise money for Northern Hills Area CASA, a non-profit organization. Northern Hills CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) promotes and protects the best interests of abused and neglected children through the advocacy efforts of trained volunteers. All proceeds benefit victims of child maltreatment in 8 counties of western South Dakota.

The Black Hills Super 6 is intended for participants of various ages and ability levels. The 3-hour/3-mile loop is designed as a short course for beginner riders. The 6-hour/6-mile course is geared for intermediate-advanced riders.

Utilizing Big Hill Trails, there will be a 3- and 6-mile loop on mountain bike trails which consist of flowy single track and double track. Participants will complete as many laps as possible during a 3-hour or 6-hour time duration. The race can be completed as a team or solo. The START/FINISH line will be in the meadow area of the Big Hill Trailhead (Trail # 72), by the warming hut.

The 6-mile loop will start by leaving the meadow area at Big Hill Trailhead and descending down Twin Bridges heading in a clockwise direction for approximately 1.5 miles. You will then stay right and climb up a double track approximately 1 mile to a ridge that will lead you to “C” Loop. Once on “C” Loop you will descend to “A” Loop which will lead you back to the meadow area of the Big Hill Trailhead.

ARE YOU UP FOR THE CHALLENGE?
The male honor is currently held by Nate Keck, from 2021, after he completed 12 laps in 6:13:18. Erin Kelly holds the women's title, finishing 9 laps in 6:03:51 in 2022.

There will be one aid station at the START/FINISH line area, which will include fruit, candy, trail mix, protein bars, pickles, Gatorade, water, and pickle juice. A special thanks to volunteers from Coeur Wharf for overseeing this area.

Lunch (walking tacos, desserts, and beverages) will be provided for all participants. A tip jar will be available for spectators who wish to eat. We appreciate the assistance of the Northern Black Hills Rotary Club in serving the food. Local donations were acquired by Lueders Food Center, Coca-Cola Bottling Company High Country, Qdoba, Taco Bell, and Taco Johns.
